A museum that emerges naturally
A series of excavations on heavily trafficked avenues revealed a connection between the town of Tultepec and the past. During the renovations, more than 200 mammoth bones were found, and thanks to the help of various organizations, the MUDEMA was created.
EXPLORATION OF THE SKELETON
On the walls of the excavation, the stratigraphy was clearly defined, identifying fifteen natural layers, three of which have been dated in previous explorations:
Layer VI, known as “Caliche Barrilaco,” is highly hardened due to a drought that occurred approximately 6,000 years ago.
Layer VII, known as “Pumice Tripartita,” corresponds to a volcanic eruption around 12,900 years ago.
Layer XI, called “Pumice with Andesite,” also resulted from a volcanic eruption approximately 14,700 years ago.
A CONNECTION WITH THE PAST
The museum features works by other visual artists depicting a distant period in time when the Ice Age was still in full swing.
